A watercraft tradition in the Florida Keys will return on the second Saturday of May, but the event will be moving to a new location.
The Battle In The Bay Dragon Boat Festival will celebrate its 5th annual edition at Truman Waterfront on Saturday, May 11. That’s a change from its previous home on Sombrero Beach in Marathon.
The move allows the event room to grow, allowing more traveling teams to add Battle In The Bay to annual racing schedules.
A sanctioned race by the Southeastern Regional Dragon Boat Association, competitive teams earn points towards racing in the United States Dragon Boat Association championships and the world championships.
Local teams also can gather pledges for donations to support area charities.
A 10 percent registration discount for teams has been extended to February 16. Teams can register now and wait until May to file rosters of 20 paddlers, 1 drummer and 3 alternates. Download a registration form from the official Website www.BattleInTheBay.org.
